Rooted in Ranchlands. Built on Real Experience
Built from lived experience, shaped by the land, and grounded in real connection

Healing Through Horses, Nature and Connection
Meet the Founder Carolyn Christian
Carolyn Christian is the founder of Momma Moss Mountain Wellness and Redemption Ride Equine Foundation, a rural Northern California nonprofit focused on equine-assisted wellness, community connection, and experiential support programs for youth, veterans, and families.
Raised in the mountains of Shasta County, Carolyn has spent much of her life working with animals, supporting community members, and advocating for people navigating trauma, stress, and adversity. Her work blends lived experience, psychology education, animal-assisted support, and a deep belief that healing often begins through connection, safety, and simple human interaction.
Carolyn holds Associate degrees in Psychology and Business Administration and is continuing her education in psychology while developing innovative wellness programs that combine animals, nature, emotional regulation, and community engagement.
Through programs such as Positive Spirit, Carolyn and her therapy dog Bailey provide low-barrier emotional support and stress decompression opportunities for students and community members in a non-clinical, relationship-centered environment. Her broader vision for Momma Moss Mountain Wellness includes equine-assisted experiences, literacy and neurodivergent advocacy initiatives, veteran support programming, and nature-based community wellness services.
Carolyn is also the author of the Mama Moss Mountain Tales children’s book series, which explores themes of emotional resilience, mental wellness, belonging, and the unique strengths often found in neurodivergent children.
At the center of everything she builds is one core belief:
People heal best when they feel safe, seen, connected, and valued.
Our Story and Mission
Momma Moss Mountain Wellness didn’t start as a program—it started as real life.
Out here, working with horses, navigating hard moments, and learning what trust actually looks like, something became clear: real healing doesn’t happen in a room. It happens through connection, consistency, and presence.
Time spent with wild mustangs—where trust isn’t given, it’s earned—shaped everything we do. We teach you to slow down, be honest, and find your footing again.
That’s what this work is built on.
Today, we bring that same approach to veterans, youth, and families—creating space for people to rebuild trust, find calm, and reconnect with themselves in a way that actually lasts.

The People Behind the Work
This work isn’t done by a distant team—it’s built by people who show up, put in the time, and care about what happens out here.
From those working hands-on with the horses to the community members who support, refer, and stand behind this mission, everything we do is rooted in real relationships.
There’s no script out here. Just people, horses, and the kind of connection that makes a difference.
